Greetings to all members and friends of Aikido Hokuryukai:
We hope you are having a fantastic summer, despite all this heat.
Yumi and I just returned from Canadian Aikido Federation Summer Camp in Calgary, and it was an amazing week of training with very high-level people, led by Osawa-sensei.
Toronto camp participants with Osawa-sensei:
(l to r) Robert Fudge, Jim Barnes, Osawa-sensei,
Ramunas Kullvelis, Yumi Nakamura
and Wil Wong.
The camp was also the site of the annual CAF Annual General Meeting. Dan Jones of Tanren Juku was elected president, while Steve Erickson of Big Rock Aikikai became vice-president. The other members of the board have not changed, including Doug Mathieu as secretary and Steven Duguay as treasurer. We are expecting great things of them this year!
Remember that Osawa-sensei is coming to the CAF fall seminar in Toronto Oct. 19-21. Our dojo, Tendokai and JCCC Aikikai are the sponsors. This will be an outstanding opportunity to train with excellent Aikidoka from across the country and test for yudansha ranks. The tentative venue is York University, soon to be confirmed.
We are going to be needing your help with organizing this event… you will be hearing more about this later. With three dojos pitching in, no one person should have to commit too much time.
Speaking of seminars, a good one is coming up in Montreal.
Waka-sensei (O-sensei’s great-grandson) will join Yamada-sensei in teaching a seminar Sept. 15-16. We encourage everyone to participate. It will be an unusual opportunity to see two international leaders of Aikido in action!
This is another reminder of our annual Summer BBQ, coming up Saturday, July 28 in Woodbridge. Full details will be posted in the dojo. All are welcome including the kids’ class members!
We would like to thank our instructors and students for taking such good care of the dojo in our absence at camp. It is good to know that we can go away without concern. We will be taking a vacation in July, so we are counting on you to continue in the same spirit!
This is a further reminder that the Tuesday and Saturday kids’ classes are cancelled in July and August.
Please get in touch if you have concerns or questions about any of these items.
