Winter and Spring practice information

—————————————-

Please note that all participants must sign this CAF COVID-19 release form:

We are going to be practicing at Dance Fire studio (DFS) in Richmond Hill two days per week (7-8 PM Monday and 3:30 to 5:30 PM Saturday), starting in February. We are allowed to have up to 10 people in class at a time.

Note that we also have ongoing Zoom classes – Wednesdays 7:00 to 8:00 (tai sabaki and solo practice) and 8:00 to 8:45 PM (jo), and Fridays 7:00 to 8:00 PM (bokken).

For the time being, we will not be able to accommodate any new members.

The address for DFS is 556 Edward Ave. Unit 58 (at the far southwest corner of the complex, beside “Ovation” that you see on the map.) It’s about a half-hour drive north of the old dojo on Finch. In terms of transit, the Bayview bus stops nearby.

It is a very attractive and convenient space with lots of parking adjacent, washrooms, mirrors and a sprung floor.

We will not be using our mats, since physical contact is still prohibited by the pandemic regulations. We will be doing jo and bokken and solo practice only.

Please treat the space exactly like a dojo. Leave your street shoes and coats, etc. in the foyer – bare feet or zori only inside. Bring both jo and bokken to every class. Wear your gi during practice. It will be possible to change inside, in one of the washrooms or in a room at the back.

COVID-19

Full pandemic precautions are in effect:

If you do not feel well, do not attend class.

If you have any reason to suspect you have been exposed to COVID-19 (for example travelling outside of Canada recently or meeting with someone who has), please get tested and do not attend the class.

We will take temperatures before class; if you have a fever, you may not attend the class.

Wear a mask at all times while inside the dojo. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before and after class and wipe your weapons down with disinfectant before class. Do not touch any other students.

Practice with the same partner for the entire class and continue to practice with that partner in subsequent classes if possible.

If anyone tests positive for COVID-19, all students will be notified and all classes cancelled for 14 days.
