We are going to be practicing at Dance Fire studio (DFS) in Richmond Hill two days per week (one class Monday and two classes Saturday), starting in October. As well, we will have one Zoom class a week on Thursday as usual.

The government has mandated that for the time being we have no more than four students in an indoor class. Please preregister for the classes you wish to attend… Monday at 7 PM, Saturday at 3:30 PM, or Saturday at 4:30 PM. We will do our best to accommodate everyone’s wishes.

For the time being, we will not be able to accommodate any new members.

The address for DFS is 556 Edward Ave. Unit 58 (at the far southwest corner of the complex, beside “Ovation” that you see on the map.) It’s about a half-hour drive north of the old dojo on Finch. In terms of transit, the Bayview bus stops nearby.

It is a very attractive and convenient space with lots of parking adjacent, washrooms, mirrors and a sprung floor.

We will not be using our mats, since physical contact is still prohibited by the pandemic regulations. We will be doing jo and bokken and solo practice only.

Please treat the space exactly like a dojo. Leave your street shoes and coats, etc. in the foyer – bare feet or zori only inside. Bring both jo and bokken to every class. Wear your gi during practice. It will be possible to change inside, in one of the washrooms or in a room at the back.

Full pandemic precautions are in effect:

If you do not feel well, do not attend class.

If you have any reason to suspect you have been exposed to COVID-19 (for example travelling outside of Canada recently or meeting with someone who has), please get tested and do not attend the class.

We will take temperatures before class; if you have a fever, you may not attend the class.

Wear a mask at all times while inside the dojo. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before and after class and wipe your weapons down with disinfectant before class. Do not touch any other students.

Practice with the same partner for the entire class and continue to practice with that partner in subsequent classes if possible.

If anyone tests positive for COVID-19, all students will be notified and all classes cancelled for 14 days.

Schedule, Dance Fire Studio (Sat. and Mon.) and Zoom (Thurs):

Barring unforeseen circumstances, we will have classes at the studio every Saturday (3:30-5:30 PM) and Monday (7-8 PM) and Zoom classes on Thursday (7-8 PM) for November, December and January.
The sole exception will be Saturday, Dec. 26 (Boxing Day). No class that day.
We will have New Year’s training on Saturday, Jan. 2.
